Your Employees Get A Tax Break On Tips.
So Do You.
The FICA Tip Credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your tax bill — and most employers with tipped staff have never claimed it.

What Changed in 2025–2026
Two Laws. One Opportunity. A Deadline You Cannot Miss.
Change 1 — Employees
Employees get a new $25,000 tip deduction (2025–2028)
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act allows tipped employees to deduct up to $25,000 in qualified tip income from their federal taxes. A server earning $40,000 in tips could reduce their federal taxable income by $25,000. Because the deduction only applies to reported tips, your employees now have a direct financial incentive to report accurately and in full.
Change 2 — Employers (Mandatory)
New W-2 occupation codes required starting 2026
Beginning tax year 2026, you must separately report cash tips and each tipped employee's IRS occupation code on Form W-2 (new Box 14b). Over 70 occupations are listed. This is not optional — your payroll and POS systems must be configured before January 2026 payroll begins.
The Connection Most Businesses Miss
More Tips Reported = More FICA Taxes Paid = A Larger Credit You Are Entitled To Claim.
As employees report more tips — which the new employee deduction incentivizes — your potential FICA Tip Credit grows with them. The two laws work together. APX positions your business to capture both.
IRS Section 45B
You Pay FICA Tax On Every Dollar Your Customers Tip Your Staff. You Can Get That Money Back.
When your employees receive tips, you — the employer — pay 7.65% in Social Security and Medicare taxes on every dollar they report. Under IRS Section 45B, you are entitled to a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for those taxes, filed on Form 8846. It is not a deduction — it is a credit that reduces your actual tax bill.

Prior Year Recovery
You May Have Left Money On The Table — For Years.
The FICA Tip Credit can be claimed for prior tax years by filing an amended return. Unused credits can be carried back one year or carried forward for up to 20 years. Many employers with tipped staff have never had this credit fully calculated, or have filed Form 8846 incorrectly. APX reviews prior-year payroll data and identifies unclaimed amounts.
